Jenkins was raised in a white, working-class family in the rural South. Her parents taught her that Black people were inferior to whites, and she internalized this message from a young age. It wasn't until she went to college that she began to question her beliefs. She started to read about the history of racism in America, and she talked to people of color about their experiences.
The more Jenkins learned, the more she realized how deeply embedded white supremacy was in her own life. She saw it in the way she was treated by her teachers and classmates, in the way the media portrayed Black people, and in the way the criminal justice system disproportionately targeted Black people.
Jenkins's journey is not an easy one. She has to confront her own racism, and she has to deal with the backlash from people who don't want her to talk about these issues. But she is determined to use her voice to speak out against white supremacy and to help others understand its harmful effects.
Clueless is an important, timely book that offers a much-needed perspective on the state of race relations in America. It is a book that will challenge you, provoke you, and ultimately inspire you to take action against racism.
