In Recore, players take control of Joule Adams, a young woman who has been sent to the planet Far Eden to investigate a mysterious signal. Upon arriving on Far Eden, Joule discovers that the planet is inhabited by a race of sentient robots known as the Cores. The Cores are divided into two factions: the Keepers, who are benevolent and want to protect Far Eden, and the Shattered, who are malevolent and want to destroy the planet.

Joule must team up with the Keepers to stop the Shattered and save Far Eden. To do this, she must travel across the planet, collect Cores, and upgrade her own Corebot, Mack. Mack can be customized with a variety of weapons and abilities, and he can be used to fight enemies, solve puzzles, and traverse the environment.
